Historical keyboard instruments

The collection of original keyboard instruments invites you to encounter the sound world of the 19th century. Special showpieces include the Viennese piano by André Stein, on which Clara Schumann gave her concert debut at the Leipzig Gewandhaus in 1828 at the age of nine, and a pedal grand piano, which - like an organ - can be played with hands and feet. Four instruments of the collection were built by Clara Schumann's cousin, Wilhelm Wieck. At the push of a button, mechanical models illustrate the three competing piano mechanics that were common at the time of Clara Schumann.
